All Aboard the Launch of Dundee Scout Network!

Dundee Network

One of Dundee’s most famous icons became host to Dundee Scout Network to provide the memorable background for a historic ceremony. RRS Discovery was boarded by fifteen 18-25 year olds to mark the occasion of the young people formally joining the Network.

Scout Network is the fifth and final section for young people in The Scout Association and provides challenge, adventure and friendship to18-25 year olds with opportunities to take part in everything from camping and abseiling, to taking part in stage shows and helping to run activities for younger members.

Drawing from both the city’s student population and from lifelong Dundonian Scouts, Dundee Network has quickly grown to one of the biggest Networks in Scotland and the investiture on the Discovery sees all involved joining the Network Section and for some, The Scout Association for the first time.

The investiture involved the young people gathering on the deck of the Discovery and making their Scout Promise, led by their Network Leader.

“It’s very exciting to have so many people joining Network” said Gemma Corner, District Scout Network leader.

“Network in Dundee is allowing many students to continue Scouting whilst away from home and is welcoming people who have never been Scouts before!”

For District Commissioner Samantha Simmons, the ceremony highlights the fact that Scouting is growing.

“It is wonderful to see so many young people joining and continuing in their Scouting adventure, Dundee is lucky to have a great Network and all the local groups benefit from the enthusiasm and experience that this group offers”

Also present was Paul Crolla, Scottish Headquarters Commissioner for Scout Network. “Network is going from strength to strength across Scotland and it is great to see Dundee District welcoming so many to the section”

Dundee Network would like to thank Dundee Heritage Trust for their kind use of RRS Discovery.
